I found this little thing on Stephen as Tucker. It’s from Daytime Confidential and is the current cover story on SOAP OPERA DIGEST

Cover Story: Blown Away! Batten down the hatches, a twister threatens lives and loves on Y&R! Genoa City is being battered by high winds as a potential tornado threatens the Midwest burg, but the blustery storm also tosses together unexpected couples. For starters, Diane and Tucker are in his apartment discussing her contract when they suddenly end up in bed! “It just kind of happens,” chuckles Maura West (Diane). “It’s written so that youdon’t know exactly who is making the moves. She’s not married, so she can do whatever she wants.”

Uh, isn’t Tucker involved with Ashley? “Tucker has never fallen this hard for anyone like he has with Ashley,” acknowledges Stephen Nichols (Tucker). “He has avoided, at all costs, that kind of intimacy. The other thing, casual sex is Tucker’s habit.” `

After the deed is done, there isn’t much time for afterglow when hurricane-force winds suddenly shatter the windows and broken glass is everywhere. Tucker and Diane are hurriedly getting dressed when Abby and Daniel come knocking. “Abby is concerned for her mom and is looking for her,” West explains. “Abby thinks the most logical place to look is at Tucker’s place. He answers the door and Diane is standing there demurely. Abby didn’t at all expect to find Diane there.”

Abby immediately demands to know what is going on. “It’s funny because there’s really no strong reason or evidence for Abby to be suspicious, except that Diane and Tucker are a little flushed,” smiles West. “But Abby is like this little sleuth and starts asking, ‘Why would you be here in the middle of a storm?’ She does have a point. Tucker explains that they were just discussing business, so that’s their story and they’re sticking to it, but it’s pretty clear that Abby’s not buying it.”

After Abby and Daniel leave, Tucker informs Diane that their romp was a one-time thing and their relationship has to remain strictly business from now on. “Oooh, that stings — and it’s mean,” sighs West. “She is a woman and that’s just not a nice thing to say a few minutes after having sex. It’s hurtful.” But Nichols points out, “Tucker immediately regrets it and this affects him. He sees how much he really does care for Ashley. As disciplined as Tucker is about business, old habits die hard.”

Abby is just outside the door and declares to Daniel that Tucker cheated on her mother with Diane. Ashley unexpectedly shows up and overhears her daughter’s comment, so Abby reveals what she and Daniel walked in on. Ashley escorts them back into Tucker’s apartment, where the sinners insist they were having a business meeting. Ashley seems appeased with their account, which irks Abby. “Abby says to her mom, ‘Look at the way they look at each other. This is not entirely innocent!'” says West. “But for whatever reason, Ashley doesn’t pounce on that right there. Diane has a poker face, but she also somewhat enjoys this. There’s no love lost between her and Ashley, and to watch a powerful man like Tucker McCall be uncomfortable is entertaining to a woman like Diane.”

Looks like Tucker is really feeling bad about cheating on Ashley (Eileen Davidson). At least they’ve added this element. I’d have really been pissed had Tucker actually liked being with Diane (Maura West). Ah, Tucker’s just an old cat on the prowel finding a stray.

Thank goodness, I like Maura West, but as Carly on ATWT. All these soap stars are showing up everywhere. They need to get storylines of their own or ease into other’s storylines. Not just suddenly be in everyone’s lives messing things up.

    • stephen nichols online says:

I never watched ATWT, but I really don’t like Maura. I think she’s way too young to be playing a character who should be in Paul’s age range. I don’t know if you were watching at the time Rachel, but Diane was married to Andy Richards, Paul’s best friend. I remember when Alex Donnelley first came on. West does not have that vibe and is not Diane. It just seems like with West, they had to inject her into as many storylines as possible to see where she stuck. But making her one of Tucker’s one night stands, shouldn’t have been one of them. There was no set up for this whatsoever. Considering how Ashley has been hurt and that Tucker was the one who gave her the strength to stay in GC with Faith, Tucker’s ‘fall’ as it were makes little sense. I could understand her being in Jack’s orbit or Victor’s, but not Tucker’s.

  2. Rachel says:

After he broke her door down to prove a point. I hate pointless storylines like these, and I love the whole ‘ you don’t know who’s seducing who’ because we’ll know. It’s not that hard to see who starts it, no matter the show or great acting. I bet it’s Diane, of course. Hate that Abby sees it and isn’t on his side anymore. Really sucks.

Ah Rachel, I hear ya. It was clear that Diane was trying to get back at Ashley. As for Abby, what right does she have to be judgemental of Tucker? How many times now is it she’s doffed her clothes in order to ‘be all grown up’? Abby’s really has some nerve pointing her finger at Tucker. When Diane found out that Tucker was Ashley’s, we just knew she was going to have to ‘get her some’ of Ash’s man. I hate this incarnation of Diane, I truly do. Why couldn’t they have brought Maura West on as a completely different character. I could have taken that one, but for her to be Diane….That’s just plainly nasty.

  3. Rachel says:

I notice that old characters can act different if a recast is done or sometimes even if the original character came back.

How did Steve and Kayla’s return go? Never got a chance to watch them. I’ve seen their storyline up until Steve dies.

Ever get a chance to find out about Stefan Cassadine DVD’s?

Recasts by definition are more like understudies to the lead in a play. They come in when the lead bows out either temporarily, or permanently…then they make their own mark on a character. But the issue I have with Maura West is that she doesn’t look old enough to be Diane. That is the reason I’m not really WOWed by her. Unlike with Tamara Braun with the character of Carly on GH. Tamara came in and made a mark on the character that was well needed. Carly needed to grow in order for her to remain on the show. Unlike in Stephen’s case with Tucker. William Russ had only played the part for 20 shows in total. People are still bitching about how Russ is and always will be Tucker McCall. For 20 shows, I’m finding it difficult to see how he could ‘make a mark’ on the character. Stephen has done one hell of a job in making Tucker different from Russ.

As for how the Steve and Kayla return went? Badly. It was okay at first. He was using the name Nick Stockton and was working as an orderly in a hospital where Jack had been taken. Jack and found out he was dying and didn’t want to trouble Jennifer, so he left Salem and as the Soap Gods would have it, became sicker and was admitted to the hospital where Nick/Steve worked. Jack knew who he was and was trying to tell him to come back to Salem, but Jack himself wasn’t willing to. By this point, Jennifer was getting ready to marry Frankie. Well Nick/Steve finally agreed to go back to Salem if Jack went. It was at the graveyard for another funeral where Kayla saw Steve for the first time. He was standing at Steve’s grave. The acting by Stephen and Mary Beth was just spot on. It’s like they never missed a beat. That magic was still there and how. Fans went a little ballistic because Steve wasn’t remembering he was Steve and he began an affair with Billie (Julie Pinson) that drove the fans batty because they wanted Steve and Kayla back together. I tuned out after that and came back when Tamara Braun signed to play Ava Vitali.

And that’s a “no” on the DVDs. I can’t afford them right now so I thought I’d hold off on emailing her until I can get the money. With my webhosting fees and other things I need to pay for for the sites I run, it does get a little costly. That’s why I ask for the donations only for the cost of keeping the sites online. So that’s on hold right now.
