I wasn’t able to post yesterday due to a couple of errands I had to run for my mom. She’s having medical problems and can’t get out to do her usual things. I’m sure you understand.

Anyway, Stephen was just so sweet yesterday. I’m totally loving the relationship between Tucker and Ashley. Stephen and Eileen Davidson make this pairing utterly believable. I love too how they had Ashley trust Tucker. The only cog in the wheel is Katherine (Jeanne Cooper.) I’m totally non-plused how they can make Katherine so dismissive of Tucker and believe the worst about him. Like Victor (Eric Braeden) and Jack (Peter Bergman) haven’t done their share of things that were worse than anything Tucker has ever or could ever do. I truly hope they end this soon. Kay’s beginning to sound like an old hag blathering on about nothing. Certainly this former alcoholic who admitted to giving Tucker away like an old pair of shoes, has no cause to stand on her high horse. I hope Ashley goes to Katherine to give her a good dose of reality considering Victor and Jack’s shortcomings…all of them. Given too Katherine threatened to tell Ashley…I love that Tucker already told her. Nipped that one in the bud, didn’t he?

While perusing the various Y&R message boards, I came across this that just about made me spit my tea out at my computer…not a good thing since it’s going into the shop to get repaired on Monday. But I digress….. Someone named LilKittenpaws on the IMDB board seems to have her information on Stephen in error. Let’s take a look at what she said… More below the cut.

SN lasted about 5 years on DOOL and for most of the time he was part of a popular couple, not male lead of the show. (I guess he was so popular he was fired? 5 years is not a long run on a soap) He was at GH for about six years after that, and he was part of a wealthy criminal family but not a power player, and not even close to male lead of the show.(And again, so popular- fired again) Then DOOL rehired him and his love interest to give it another try. It fizzled pretty quick, they were let go,(yet once again) after a couple years.

Tucker was originally written to be a wealthy business power player, SN has never played that, and he doesn’t have the bigger than life presence to pull it off. I notice they have tweaked the role to have him sneaky instead, working his business dealings through others. He doesn’t confront the men power players face to face. If he’s in an angry confrontation it’s written with a woman. And even with the women his voice doesn’t project enough power so he must shout at them, which backfires because his ranting looks like he can’t control himself.

Can the writers put Tucker face to face in confrontation with Victor, Adam, or Nick? Sure, but he will look weak. They can write the script to have Tucker overpower every guy in town but it would come off as comedy. Even the thought of the other men characters shaking in their boots over Tucker’s threats or business dealings makes me laugh.

She further states in another post:

We don’t really need a Tucker character. He’s too similar to Victor and we have more than enough Victor. Two old man egotistical Victor-types fighting, two old guy egotistical Victor-types that must win every business deal in town. Who cares? BORING! The woman need to be in the business picture and the younger men need to be developed. The only reason Y&R needs older male characters is to pair with it older veteran female characters.

Ashley can easily be paired with a younger man, she doesn’t need a guy a decade older. He’s unsuitable for Jill (Not Tucker, SN too short/small-framed). Nikki has the male-chauvinist man in Victor, why would she want to be with another that she has no family with? She chooses victor opposites if not with Victor.(Plus SN is small next to her size wise too) Can’t see him with Gloria. And he’s a good 15 years older than Phyllis. I don’t think she would accept him anyway, as a leading lady of the show they would bring in a hot young stub for her (and us) to enjoy.

How does one counter such idiocy? It boggles my mind. Tucker is not a copy of Victor (Eric Braeden). Not in any shape, form or description. And to say that Ashley (Eileen Davidson) shouldn’t be paired with a man almost a decade older…. That just smacks of all kinds of stupid. What Ms. LilKittenpaws fails to note is that Tucker is the son of a legacy character in Katherine (Jeanne Cooper). So because Stephen is what could be considered ‘short’ (he’s 5′ 11″) he shouldn’t be paired with women who are…also short or tall….? Would mean that Sonny and Cher were all kinds of wrong. Or should I mention Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban? Then there is the obvious misinformation she cites about Stephen’s tenure on both DAYS OF OUR LIVES and GENERAL HOSPITAL. She says that Stephen was fired from DOOL the first time around. We all know Stephen was itching to try something new and chose to leave on his own accord. As far as GH is concerned, we all know what happened when the Phelps/Frons/Guza regime came in. Honestly, this person comes off as a snotty 13-year-old whose parents wouldn’t let her on the Justin Beiber board. Any comments to enlighten this person.

Well, where has Stephen’s story gone? Today he was backdrop for Jack (Peter Bergman) and Abby’s (Marcy Rylan) angst over Victor (Eric Braeden). I hear that GENERAL HOSPITAL veteran Tristan Rogers has tweeted that he’s enjoying working with Jess Walton (Jill Abbott). Isn’t this where Stephen started when he first came on? I’m almost wanting Tucker back with Diane (Maura West). At least he had story there. There should have been some mention of Tucker’s absence at Katherine’s (Jeanne Cooper), but there wasn’t. It was all about Ronan (Jeff Branson). So where…exactly is Stephen supposed to get his well-deserved story with all this other stuff going on? Go figure!

Damn, I was hoping Tucker would be onto Blake (Paul Leydon). It seemed like in the preview they were leading to his being found out. Come on writers, make Tucker more intelligent than this. This guy has more than either Victor (Eric Braeden) and Jack (Peter Bergman). He’s got a sixth sense to him that needs to be brought to the fore. This is The Tuckernator afterall. I also hear that Laura Stone (Skye Lockhart Newman) has been given her walking papers. Once more, a soap opera getting rid of one of its better assets. Laura is amazing and I love her wit and her ability to throw a good line. Seems what Michael Logan said in a recent article about the death of Zach Slater, played by the impressively handsome and wonderful Thorsten Kaye, that the only thing that soaps are interested in these days are as he termed it, “Soaps are overpopulated with pretty but vacuous underpants models.” I’m afraid I have to agree with him. The really good actors are let go or not hired in order to fill out roles with ‘yes’ men and women who will not challenge the integrity of the work they’re being asked to do. I only have to cite what happened to Tamara Braun in her three roles as Carly on GENERAL HOSPITAL, Ava on DAYS OF OUR LIVES and as Reese in ALL MY CHILDREN. Instead what we have is a group of over-hyped frat boys and sorority gals getting off on hiring the ‘it’ girls and guys that will acquiesce to the whims of the idiot writers.

I had a little problem with my recording device. For some reason it just would not engage in the USB port on my computer. If didn’t know better, I’d swear the whammy was put on me…..

Well, I’m at a loss to explain the current behaviour from our resident uber-gazillionaire. This whole storyline with Diane (Maura West) feels totally out of left field. It’s as if when West signed, the powers that be decided to throw her at Stephen and see if anything sticks, while in the process, ruining one of the brightest lights THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS has shone in a long time. What I loved about Tucker is that he knew what Ashley had been through with Adam (Michael Muhney), Victor (Eric Braeden) and the loss of Faith. The courtroom scene where Vance Abrams (Eric Roberts) laid Ashley bare and Tucker gave her that space she said she needed, has become tainted by West’s sudden casting. As some have been saying on some message boards, this does not bode well for Stephen or Tucker if they’re suddenly turning this reliable guy, into this cheating arse. Because that’s how it’s appearing. And it’s not like I don’t understand the very fluid nature of soaps, it’s just this does not look good at all.

ETA @ 10:07 PM: I forgot to add, the video embed here, the episode with Tucker and Diane icky sex, is the 100th video added to our media site, RENEGADE MEDIA. Never thought we’d get there.

My gosh, that Tucker is a manipulative bastard. I am loving Stephen’s handling of Tucker’s underlings. So well played like a master. He’s got both Victor (Eric Braeden) and Jack (Peter Bergman) off kilter while manipulating Abby (Marcy Rylan) and approaching Victoria (Amelia Heinle) in broad daylight in front of Jack, offering her the co-CEO job at Jabot without really mentioning it, but we as the viewer knew exactly what he was dangling in front of Victoria in front of Jack. Talk about a true chess player. This man certainly knows the meaning of checkmate. What cheek. He’d give James Bond a run for his money and give more than enough competition to Daniel Craig to make him worry about the future of his job. I know, “Hyperbole much….” Don’t care. It was wonderful seeing Tucker working that room like he did. Makes me not want to get on Tucker’s bad side. My feeling is I might end up like Ms. Fields (Gemma Arterton) did in QUANTUM OF SOLACE. Yes, thinking of starting a campaign to have Stephen Nichols as the next Bond villian right there behind Mads Mikkelsen (La Chiffre, CASINO ROYALE) and Mathieu Amalric (Dominck Greene, QUANTUM OF SOLACE.

September 9, 2010

THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS is pre-empted in Canada (today) and Friday (US). With this week’s Billy (Billy Miller) and Victoria (Amelia Heinle) nuptials, it’s not surprising Stephen hasn’t been on screen for the last week. Given that Victoria’s ‘arrest’ at Victor’s (Eric Braeden) hand was as a result of the Miskoshi deal Tucker and Ashley (Eileen Davidson) went to Japan to seek out, I’m going to expect to see Stephen next week.

I’m still getting used to the new format. I couple of times now, I’ve gone to go to the old sign in screen to work on some internal things. Imagine my faux pas when I’ve realized, “It’s the new format dummy!” Yep, I’ve called myself ‘dummy’. I cannot believe we’re into September already. My how the year has flown. It seems like only yesterday word came Stephen was going to be taking over the part of Tucker. I cannot believe SNO has been online this long.

Some good scenes today with Stephen. I’m wondering what he’s up to in that scene where Tucker is witnessing Ashley (Eileen Davidson), Vance Abrams (Eric Roberts) and Victor (Eric Braeden) in their huddle. Take a look and you’ll understand what I’m talking about. Suspicious much. But then that’s why we love our guy.

By the way, I’m going to be doing away with the little ‘goto’ icon I’ve been using lo these many months. To get to the relevant links, click on the thing that looks like this: [ 000 ]. Meaning, the ‘000’ represents the number of screencaps or whatever there is attached to the link. Did that make any sense?
